I'm worried about my boyfriend because he doesn't think he has any real friends?

My boyfriends a great guy. Helpful, funny, and always willing to stick his neck out for his friends. However, none of his friends are willing to stick theirs out back for him. How can I make him feel better? He just found out his old roomie / friend of 8 years got a new job over a month ago and didn't even tell him.
