Literalistic Christians how do you reconcile your conscience with the bloody history of your religion?

Man chooses to do evil all by himself. Whether he uses religion as an excuse, or politics, or economics, or any personal belief system, one cannot remove man from the equation. God does not endorse any formal religious organization. He condemns murder. Man loves power and will twist any belief and use any tactic to get power. Your argument can be applied to any formal religion, not just Christianity. There have been people who have killed and oppressed in the name of every belief system, all throughout history. The problem lies with man, not Christ or God.
