Can anyone tell me.. why a 2001 Ford Focus, upon trying to stop.. the engine will..?

Can anyone tell me.. why a 2001 Ford Focus, upon trying to stop.. the engine will, rev up and then sound and feel as if it drops.. and lurches forward? We have it at the mechanics right now.. but, nothing shows on the computer.. any help on what could be wrong would be much appreciated.
