Is Depression a Legal Disability?Do you think I should work?
I know this is long so please bear with me.As I know,I have depression going back to my grandmother and from what I know, both sides of my family have varied types of mental illness. Both of my siblings and my mother get SSI,both for mental disability, and my Dad worked, but was hospitalized as well in the past.Well to get to the point,I was hospitalized for Major Depression and have had a past addiction to Meth which I was addicted to for 6 months.I get episodes that go like this,I feel angry in the morning, sometimes to the point I hit myself across the face, and bang my head in the wall, and scream at the top of my lungs, one person said I looked "Souless" and "Possesed" and had a distant blank look.Sometimes people said I just walked away in the middle of them talking to me,like something "clicked" in me .Most episodes I have NO memory of at all!!I just feel a rush of anger and sadness and the next thing I know, people are angry with me,nothing in between! That never happened to me until sacramento county cut my medication off, saying I was not a "Priority" patient.I normally do not hit anything, and I know my mind, but this has started happening when they cut me off my meds.I have not worked since Jun '09.I now currently go to school to be a Medical Administrative Specialist, and trying to find work is HARD!!!IThis is starting to affect my life now that I have no meds.I also cannot keep a job longer than a few months when I was working because my mind would wander, and I could not concentrate on my work, which was inbound customer service. Now my question is,should I just ignore it,because the doctor keeps saying "You are a young and strong man, this is for older more disabled people, you can work,NOW GO!!,or should I try to pursue SSI in court.I have my doentation of everything as well.Do you think my condition is a priority?I need advice.Thanks.
